The Great Egret is one of the largest of the wading birds. Standing over 4 feet in height with a wingspan of more than 50 inches with long black legs, black feet, stout yellow bill, and tremendous size. Like other herons, the Great Egret flies slowly and with its neck retracted, which is an easy way to distinguish it in flight from storks, cranes, ibises, and spoonbills, which extend their necks in flight. They can be found from Florida to southern Canada. Years ago, I was in Florida and had a chance to spend a day at the The Venice Audubon Rookery Park during  the nesting months. It is an oasis of natural beauty surrounded by urban development. The central feature of this small park is a rookery island where birds roost and nest. Visitors can view wildlife from benches in the shaded pavilion or walk around the small pond. The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon.
